Have the major political parties lost touch with what's important at the local community level?
According to the results of a poll commissioned by ALGA, Australians certainly think so - 81% agreed that political candidates should focus on local issues and local communities at the next federal election.

Australians agree, federal election focus should be local
Findings of a poll published in ALGA's federal election document launched yesterday have revealed that 81% of Australians agree that political candidates should focus on local issues and local communities at the next federal election.
Under the theme 'all politics is local', the election document outlines 12 ways political parties and their candidates can keep the election local and deliver for Australian communities.
Government welcomes independent road safety inquiry
The Australian Government initiated an inquiry into the National Road Safety Strategy 2011-2020 (NRSS) in 2017. On 12 September 2018 the National Road Safety Strategy 2011-2020 (NRSS) Inquiry panel provided its report to the Australian Government at Parliament House.
The inquiry focused on the current system's safety, while recognising that modal shifts in transport, urban planning, technology, data, users, usage and cultural factors can and will be important.

The aim of Anti-Poverty Week is to:
- Strengthen public understanding of the causes and consequences of poverty and hardship around the world and in Australia; and
- Encourage research, discussion and action to address these problems, including action by individuals, communities, organisations and governments.
