President's column

It's been an animated and dramatic week in Canberra that has culminated with a new leadership team for the Liberals. We welcome Hon Scott Morrison MP to the country's top job as the new Prime Minister, and Hon Josh Frydenberg MP as his Deputy in the Liberal Party.

Scott Morrison was the Treasurer who ended the freeze on Financial Assistance Grants indexation and Josh Frydenberg has been very helpful in letting ALGA address the Meeting of Environment Ministers around waste and recycling issues,

2018-19 Financial Assistance Grants first quarterly payment

The Government's first quarterly payment under the 2018-19 Financial Assistance Grant program has been delivered to the states and territories for distribution to local councils across the country.

Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government Dr John McVeigh said the $307 million allocated this quarter will be spent in local priority areas including health, recreation, environment, employment and road projects.

First-of-its-kind regional partnership

The Tasmanian and south-west Western Australian members of the national Regional Development Australia (RDA) network have formally agreed to establish a collaborative working relationship designed to support economic growth in their regions.

Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government Dr John McVeigh said the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by representatives of RDA Tasmania and RDA South West marks a significant shift in the way the RDA network operates.
